Chairman Olorunda Local Government Area

INTRODUCTION:
Olorunda Local Government area is one of the 30 Local Councils that constitute the present Osun State. It was carved out of the former Osogbo, Oba-Ile , Oba-Oke, ILie, as well as many other neighboring villages like Dagbolu, Kobon-gbogboe, Idi Amu, Alapata, Oloshe, Ejemu, Plarinde Olowe, Areja. Oluode, Idiope, Eesa, Kelebe, Alagbede, Abidoguun, Alabameta etc. The ancient town of Osogbo, the seat of the Local Government (Igbona), was founded by Larooye and Timehin, the first settlers in Osogbo. The expanded areas occupied by the non-natives include: Oke-Onetea in Agbowande Area, School of Nursing, Ilobu road, Pepsi Cola Area, Kola Balogun Testing-ground, Iludun, Atiba areas, among others. Olorunda Local Government Area covers a land of about 600 sq/kms. Its is bordered in the east by Irepodun Local Government / Surulere Local Government of Oyo State, Osogbo Local Government to the west, Ifelodun/ Boripe and Egbedore Local Government to the North and south respectively. Olorunda Local Government lies within the rain forest belt, North-east of Yoruba land. The climate of Olorunda Local Government is tropical with the rainy season beginning in March and ending in September or early October. The harmattan or dry season begins in October and ends in March. The 1991 population for Olorunda Local Government is put at 83,347.
